Torano, Haas, and Walter Emerge As Champions

TAMPA, FL-November 26, 2001- Danielle Torano of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Erin Haas of Chelsea, MI and Shelby Walter of Beverly Hills, CA emerged as the three conference champions of the 2001 National Horse Sports Foundation Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series. Each received a Tiffany crystal from the Show Jumping Hall of Fame and a cooler compliments of the National Horse Sports Foundation.
East Conference
Torano entered the East Conference's final event at the National Horse Show in Madison Square Garden with an insurmountable lead on Sir Ruly, Inc.'s Lojana following her win in September at the American Gold Cup. She placed fifth at the National to finish the season with 155 points. Paige Rassas of Northfield, IL was second in the final standings with 82 points on her Chica Bay. She clinched the Reserve Champion honor by placing second in the final in New York to Kate Bomgaars of Rochester, MN who won the class on her Jupiter.
Central Conference
Haas won the Central Conference on her Mir with 88 points after defeating a field of 18 competitors at the Kentucky National Horse Show, the culminating event of the eight events in the Central Conference. She had also won the Show Jumping Hall of Fame class at the Traders Point Hunt Charity Horse Show in August. Finishing as the Central Conference Reserve Champion was Chrissy Renz of Lake Geneva, WI with 56 points on her Boo-Dah.
West Conference
In the final West event at the L.A. National Horse Show on November 18, Walter and Lancer Farm's German Dance placed second to Dana Levin of Los Angeles on her Blackmail. The 22 points for second place gave Shelby 52 points for the year and the West Conference Championship over Reserve Champion Morgan Fauth of Wazota, MN on Cohiba. They finished the Series with 43 points. 16 horses went in the class at Los Angeles with two going clean. German Dance went first and finished clean in 46.314 seconds. Blackmail then beat that time to gain the win with a clean ride in 39.326 seconds. The second place was still good enough for German Dance to win the Series title. Blackmail's win allowed them to tie for fourth in the West Conference final standings with 30 points.
